Article structured-data check

active
engine

Rich results start with typed markup. Untyped pages don’t fail loudly — they just never qualify.

What it checks

Page JSON-LD must declare one of Article, BlogPosting, or NewsArticle, with a non-empty headline. A companion draft extends this to full gallery field consistency once its sourceVersion lands.

Pass conditions

  • Recognized article type present in a JSON-LD block.
  • headline present and matching the visible title — mismatches invalidate the block.
  • No second, contradictory type block on the same page.

Typical fails

CMS upgrades that strip the headline field; templates rendering JSON-LD only on desktop variants; gallery updates that add required fields the template predates. Missing headline is currently the top fail signature across demo audits.

Fix checklist

  • Emit the type block server-side so it exists before any JS runs.
  • Bind headline to the same source as the visible H1 — one source, two renderings.
  • Re-check after every gallery update; required fields drift without notice.
